Lately, I've been feeling pretty darn accomplished. 2024 has been a great year in writing for yours truly, so I decided it was time to check-in on my writing goals for the year. Am I meeting the milestones I set back in December or is my back patting misplaced?
2024 Goals Revisited
Finish Volume Four
Well, I'm not meeting this goal…at least, not as I laid it out back in December. At the time, I had banged out twenty chapters in quick succession and had the temerity to make the bold claim I'd have the rough draft done by spring. Hah! A combination of life and the story growing in the telling derailed this objective. I've only recently finished the rough draft and won't get to the edit until 2025. Still, I'll give myself partial credit. If not for the haunted high school project, I'd have the fourth and final volume of Allison's adventures fully edited before the year's end.
Successfully Launch The Wrath of Monster
I'll give myself a passing grade on this one. I think my launch went pretty well for a small press author. I successfully leveraged influencers, including podcasts, and made the most of my newsletter. On top of that, the book received stellar reviews and was even included in Kirkus Magazine. Mission accomplished!!!
Haunted School Project
I'm currently neck-deep into the planning process on this one. It's really exciting to start a novel-length work that's not part of The Allison Lee Chronicles. I have a deadline for this one, and it's not the self-imposed kind. Check back regularly for updates, and expect to see this yarn and, with a little bit of good fortune, Allison's final adventure in 2026!
Revisiting Short Stories
So far, good luck with this one. I've dusted off two short stories that had been collecting digital dust in the cloud and had them published. The first was an action-packed fantasy tale called Life, One Battle at a Time. In August, SpillWords.com published my humorous fantasy short, A Debt Paid. I'm really pleased with that one, as it's my first attempt at humorous writing, and it was nominated for the publication's story of the month. It didn't win, but positive publicity is positive publicity.
