Volume Four
The fourth and final volume in The Allison Lee Chronicles is done!!!! Well…more precisely, the rough draft is finished. I have a monumental editing job ahead of me. The editorial butcher block will be awash in gore for this one.
The Deets
Here are the deets:
I have 98 chapters written—that's about 50 chapters too many!
The chapters average about 1,765 words each. I'm happy with the average word count, as I like my chapters short and punchy.
Unfortunately, those numbers give me approximately 173,000 words in total. That's, at a minimum, 73,000 words too many. And it's more than that, honestly. I'd like the finished product to be about 90,000 words.
Like I said, a mammoth editing task. But that's okay. It's during the edit that life is breathed into the tale.
On to the Edit?
Typically, I am one to jump right into the edit immediately after finishing the rough draft. Some people take a break to distance themselves from the work. I don't have this issue because it's been months or even a year since I touched the draft's opening chapters. This time, however, I will be taking a break because I have another project to knock out first—a project with a deadline! I've had authorial deadlines before, but never one from the very beginning of a project, except for those self-imposed. Overall, it's a good problem to have!
So when will Volume 4 hit the shelves, completing Allison's adventures once and all? Probably not in 2025. But if the literary deities smile upon me, I'll drop two books in 2026! More info to come…
